Blood & Gum Leaves

All the dreamers are dying
Where I sit by the lake
I can see them climbing
Up a rainbow coloured snake

Towards the stars of their ancestors
I see them wander away
Across the sands of time they go
We'll never see them again

I see their blood in the billabong
Why must there be so much wrong with man?
I pray one day we can get along
And find the strength in ourselves
To shake hands with our brothers

So want not for yourself, but others
Cos there's only ever love
Beneath the colour of your skin
Or the clothes you're living in

I hope one day we learn the way we've been
Is just destructive
And we must give back our lands;
Our lives and tribes in the end
Blend into one in the setting sun

For all the things that we've stolen
You know they'll never forget
And all the wrong that we've done them
We're bound to answer for this

But I have found the solution
For all the debt that we owe
We've got a lot we can give right back
So that our culture can grow

I see their blood in the billabong
Why must there be so much wrong with man?
I pray one day we can get along
And find the strength in ourselves
To shake hands with our brothers

So want not for yourself, but others
Cos there's only ever love
Beneath the colour of your skin
Or the clothes you're living in

I hope one day we learn the way we've been
Is just destructive
And we must give back our lands;
Our lives and tribes in the end
Blend into one in the setting sun

I see the gum by the billabong
And a surer shift in the sand
Now believe that we all belong
